Stainless Steel Tube

As one of the stainless steel tube suppliers, SDO provides stainless steel tubes that are widely used in petroleum, chemical, medical, food, light industry, machinery and instrumentation and other industrial transportation pipelines and mechanical structural parts. In addition, when the bending and torsion strength are the same, the weight is lighter, so it is also widely used in the manufacture or mechanical parts and engineering structures, also often used as furniture and kitchen utensils.

As we know, stainless steel tubes generally use three hardness indexes, BRINELL, ROCKWELL, and VICKERS to measure their hardness.

ss304 pipe VS. ss316 tube

Steel pipe corrosion resistance, anti-corrosion coating as a protection, not easy to rust, so by many building materials users love, pipe use is relatively wide, it can be used as a large number of construction pipeline installation, such as handrails, railings, anti-theft window tube, machinery production equipment, etc., widely used in the water supply industry, medical industry, food and other industries.

SS 304 pipes in the application of anti-corrosion, not easy to rust, long-term use, the pipe does not change color, not easy to deformation state, generally can withstand 1.6 MPA and 2.5 MPA pressure, at the same time, 304 stainless steel pipe has plasticity and ductility, in the impact of external forces, the pipe is only slight deformation, will not cause leakage.

Ni, Cr and Mo elements are added to 316l stainless steel pipe, which has higher density, better corrosion resistance and higher temperature resistance than 304. therefore, it is widely used in various industrial fields (sea water equipment, chemistry, dyes, papermaking, oxalic acid, fertilizer and other production equipment). The purity and thickness of ss 304 pipes and 316 are different, and 316 has relatively better corrosion resistance and better anti-rust. So the price  of 304 steel pipe will be more lower than stainless steel pipe 316.

Due to different uses and different use scenes, we choose the appropriate stainless steel pipe according to the applicable scene when using stainless steel pipe. For dry areas, it is enough to use 304 stainless steel pipe, which has good corrosion resistance and is not easy to rust. However, if it is used in coastal areas, sewage treatment plants need to use 316, which is not easy to corrode.

How Do Stainless Steel Tube Suppliers Measure Its Hardness?

Among the stainless steel pipe standards, BRINELL hardness is the most widely used, and the hardness of the material is often expressed by the indentation diameter, which is both intuitive and convenient. But it is not suitable for steel pipes of harder or thinner steel.

The Rockwell hardness test of stainless steel pipe is the same as the Brinell hardness test, which is the indentation test method. The difference is that it measures the depth of the indentation. Rockwell hardness test is currently a widely used method, among which HRC is second only to Brinell hardness HB in steel pipe standards. Rockwell hardness can be used to measure metal materials from extremely soft to extremely hard. It makes up for the difference of the Brinell method and is simpler than the Brinell method. The hardness value can be read directly from the dial of the hardness machine. However, due to its small indentation, the hardness value is not as accurate as of the Brinell method.

The stainless steel tube Vickers hardness test is also an indentation test method, which can be used to determine the hardness of very thin metal materials and surface layers. It has the main advantages of the Brinell and Rockwell method and overcomes their basic shortcomings, but it is not as simple as the Rockwell method. Vickers method is rarely used in steel pipe standards.
